Slade's design is unique in its ability to quickly and easily transform into a variety of configurations. The options include a small or large coffee table, a TV stand, bookshelves, display pieces, a light table, and more. This versatility sets the SPONTANEOUS Custom Design apart from other customizable furniture designs.
The Kinetic Kontraption was created at the Azrieli School of Architecture wood and metal shops at Carleton University, Ontario, Canada. The prototype was constructed with maple and maple plywood for all wood components and cold rolled steel rods and tube for all metal components. The materials are interchangeable, making the design adaptable for future models.
The design is simple yet effective, consisting of only three parts: two identical wood boxes and one metal frame. This simplicity makes the product easy to assemble, disassemble, and customize, allowing it to fit in virtually any size of home. The patent 'joint' idea, which connects the wood boxes to the metal frame, is a key feature of this design.
Slade's design began in January 2012 and a full-scale prototype was completed by March 29th, 2012 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The next steps for this design are marketing and mass-producing the Kinetic Kontraption product. This design is not only a testament to Slade's creativity and innovation but also his commitment to creating functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture.
The SPONTANEOUS | Kinetic Kontraption is a testament to Slade's creativity and innovation in furniture design. It embodies extraordinary excellence and significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics. The design was awarded the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2013, a testament to its outstanding and trendsetting creation that advances art, science, design, and technology.
